Poštovani, Vaš članak Novo istraživanje pokazalo da su ljudi koji su primili cjepivo protiv koronavirusa duže zarazni od onih koji nisu, a posebno iznenadili docijepljeni me iznenadio. Mislim da je došlo do ozbiljne greške u činjenicama koje prenosite, koju ćete vjerojatno htjeti čim prije ispraviti.

Ne mislim da ste namjerno prenijeli krive informacije, ali da ste u igri gluhog telefona citirali izvor koji je (svjesno ili nesvjesno) lažno prenio zaključke studije na koju se poziva.Vaš novinar pod inicijalima PSD se poziva ne neku nedavnu studiju u uglednom časopisu New England Journal of Medicine (NEJM), i tvrdi da su autori te studije pokazali da cjepivo dovodi do duljeg trajanja infektivnosti.

To me je iznenadilo, jer ugledni svjetski mediji ni međunarodna znanstvena zajednica nemaju o tome informacija, a o tome bi sve brujalo da je doista tako.Međutim, studija s gorenavednim zaključcima se ne može naći nigdje među objavljenim radovima na web stranici NEJMa. Uz naprednu pretragu informacija iz vašeg članka shvatio sam da je jedan članak na desničarskom portalu National Pulse iz Amerike (na linku OVDJE) citirao jedan članak u NEJM časopisu, ali sasvim iskrivio poruke autora uz vrlo tendencioznu obradu teksta.Izvorni članak, na koga se National Pulse poziva je pismo urednicima koje je objavljeno u NEJMu OVDJE. Već iz naslova članka je jasno da se ne radi o usporedbi cijepljenih i necijepljenih.

U članku koji se zasniva na malo uzorku od 17 necijepljenih, 37 cijepljenih i 13 busteriranih ljudi (vrlo mali brojevi i vrlo neprecizna statistika) autori doslovno pišu: "There were no appreciable between-group differences in the time to PCR conversion or culture conversion according to vaccination status, although the sample size was quite small, which led to imprecision in the estimates (Figure 1D and 1E)."

Dakle autori navode da nije došlo do znatnijih razlika u trajanju infektivnosti jer su imali premalo uzoraka za takve zaključke.

Naprotiv, autori dalje navode i slijedeće:

"Although vaccination has been shown to reduce the incidence of infection and the severity of disease, we did not find large differences in the median duration of viral shedding among participants who were unvaccinated, those who were vaccinated but not boosted, and those which were vaccinated and boosted."

Dakle, cijepljenje je dovelo do rijeđe infekcije I blažih simmptoma, ali među osobama s probojnom infekcijom nije bilo velikih razlika u srednjem trajanju virusne infektivnosti ovisno o cijepnom statusu.Dakle sasvim drukčiji zaključci od ovih koje je prenio National Pulse, a onda i SD.

SD nije izmislila brojke - prenijela je ono sto su ovi u National Pulse pisali. A ovi u National Pulse nisu sasvim izmislili cifre, ali su pogrešno (svjesno i zlonamjerno, ili nesvjesno iz neznanja) interpretirali dvije stvari:

Kao prvo - ovo je studija s malim brojem slučajeva. Interval pouzdanosti, statistička mjera koja se određuje koliko je srednja vrijednost precizna, je u takvim studijama vrlo široka I to za sve grupe, što se i vidi u slikama D i E koje vidimo u oba članka (i u NEJM i u National Pulse). Stoga je došlo do golemih preklapanja između grupa, a razlike nisu bile statistički, a onda ni medicinski značajne. National Pulse je odabrao jedan trenutak po dijagnozi (10 dana) gdje se okom vidjela najveća razlika u srednjem postotku osoba s pozitivnim PCRom, ali nisu prenijeli da su se rezultati u velikoj mjeri preklapali i da ta razlika nije bila statistički značajna, nego rezultat slučajne raspodjele.

Druga je greška da se u National Pulse članku fokusiraju na trajanje PCRa, iako su u studiji radili daleko kvalitetnije (i tehnički zahtjevnije) mjerenje, a to je kultivacija virusa iz uzoraka, koja daleko bolje definira je li bris nosa bio infektivan (slika E). Tu vidimo još manje razlika izmedju skupina. Taj dio se u National Pulse posve prešućuje.Najironičnije jest da poanta studije uopće nije bila da definiraju razlike između cijepljenih i necijepljenih. Njihov cilj je bio da definiraju je li preporuka CDCa da se period karantena skrati s 10 na 5 dana po infekciji (koju su izdali kad se pojavio omikron) imala smisla. Njihovi rezultati su pokazali da su uzorci u prosjeku bili čak I malo dulje infektivni u omikronu i da ta preporuka nije bila dobra, jer je povećala šansu da se ljudi vrate iz izolacije u društvo dok su još mogli širiti virus. Taj dio SD uopće nije prenijela, iako je glavni zaključak koga autori studije naglašavaju u svom zaključku (i koji je po svoj prilici bio razlog da su svoje rezultate mogli objaviti u NEJMu).

Poštovani, Vaš članak Novo istraživanje pokazalo da su ljudi koji su primili cjepivo protiv koronavirusa duže zarazni od onih koji nisu, a posebno iznenadili docijepljeni me iznenadio. Mislim da je došlo do ozbiljne greške u činjenicama koje prenosite, koju ćete vjerojatno htjeti čim prije ispraviti.

Ne mislim da ste namjerno prenijeli krive informacije, ali da ste u igri gluhog telefona citirali izvor koji je (svjesno ili nesvjesno) lažno prenio zaključke studije na koju se poziva.Vaš novinar pod inicijalima PSD se poziva ne neku nedavnu studiju u uglednom časopisu New England Journal of Medicine (NEJM), i tvrdi da su autori te studije pokazali da cjepivo dovodi do duljeg trajanja infektivnosti.

To me je iznenadilo, jer ugledni svjetski mediji ni međunarodna znanstvena zajednica nemaju o tome informacija, a o tome bi sve brujalo da je doista tako.Međutim, studija s gorenavednim zaključcima se ne može naći nigdje među objavljenim radovima na web stranici NEJMa. Uz naprednu pretragu informacija iz vašeg članka shvatio sam da je jedan članak na desničarskom portalu National Pulse iz Amerike (na linku OVDJE) citirao jedan članak u NEJM časopisu, ali sasvim iskrivio poruke autora uz vrlo tendencioznu obradu teksta.Izvorni članak, na koga se National Pulse poziva je pismo urednicima koje je objavljeno u NEJMu OVDJE. Već iz naslova članka je jasno da se ne radi o usporedbi cijepljenih i necijepljenih.

U članku koji se zasniva na malo uzorku od 17 necijepljenih, 37 cijepljenih i 13 busteriranih ljudi (vrlo mali brojevi i vrlo neprecizna statistika) autori doslovno pišu: "There were no appreciable between-group differences in the time to PCR conversion or culture conversion according to vaccination status, although the sample size was quite small, which led to imprecision in the estimates (Figure 1D and 1E)."

Dakle autori navode da nije došlo do znatnijih razlika u trajanju infektivnosti jer su imali premalo uzoraka za takve zaključke.

Naprotiv, autori dalje navode i slijedeće:

"Although vaccination has been shown to reduce the incidence of infection and the severity of disease, we did not find large differences in the median duration of viral shedding among participants who were unvaccinated, those who were vaccinated but not boosted, and those which were vaccinated and boosted."

Dakle, cijepljenje je dovelo do rijeđe infekcije I blažih simmptoma, ali među osobama s probojnom infekcijom nije bilo velikih razlika u srednjem trajanju virusne infektivnosti ovisno o cijepnom statusu.Dakle sasvim drukčiji zaključci od ovih koje je prenio National Pulse, a onda i SD.

SD nije izmislila brojke - prenijela je ono sto su ovi u National Pulse pisali. A ovi u National Pulse nisu sasvim izmislili cifre, ali su pogrešno (svjesno i zlonamjerno, ili nesvjesno iz neznanja) interpretirali dvije stvari:

Kao prvo - ovo je studija s malim brojem slučajeva. Interval pouzdanosti, statistička mjera koja se određuje koliko je srednja vrijednost precizna, je u takvim studijama vrlo široka I to za sve grupe, što se i vidi u slikama D i E koje vidimo u oba članka (i u NEJM i u National Pulse). Stoga je došlo do golemih preklapanja između grupa, a razlike nisu bile statistički, a onda ni medicinski značajne. National Pulse je odabrao jedan trenutak po dijagnozi (10 dana) gdje se okom vidjela najveća razlika u srednjem postotku osoba s pozitivnim PCRom, ali nisu prenijeli da su se rezultati u velikoj mjeri preklapali i da ta razlika nije bila statistički značajna, nego rezultat slučajne raspodjele.

Druga je greška da se u National Pulse članku fokusiraju na trajanje PCRa, iako su u studiji radili daleko kvalitetnije (i tehnički zahtjevnije) mjerenje, a to je kultivacija virusa iz uzoraka, koja daleko bolje definira je li bris nosa bio infektivan (slika E). Tu vidimo još manje razlika izmedju skupina. Taj dio se u National Pulse posve prešućuje.Najironičnije jest da poanta studije uopće nije bila da definiraju razlike između cijepljenih i necijepljenih. Njihov cilj je bio da definiraju je li preporuka CDCa da se period karantena skrati s 10 na 5 dana po infekciji (koju su izdali kad se pojavio omikron) imala smisla. Njihovi rezultati su pokazali da su uzorci u prosjeku bili čak I malo dulje infektivni u omikronu i da ta preporuka nije bila dobra, jer je povećala šansu da se ljudi vrate iz izolacije u društvo dok su još mogli širiti virus. Taj dio SD uopće nije prenijela, iako je glavni zaključak koga autori studije naglašavaju u svom zaključku (i koji je po svoj prilici bio razlog da su svoje rezultate mogli objaviti u NEJMu).

Poštovani, Vaš članak Novo istraživanje pokazalo da su ljudi koji su primili cjepivo protiv koronavirusa duže zarazni od onih koji nisu, a posebno iznenadili docijepljeni me iznenadio. Mislim da je došlo do ozbiljne greške u činjenicama koje prenosite, koju ćete vjerojatno htjeti čim prije ispraviti.

Ne mislim da ste namjerno prenijeli krive informacije, ali da ste u igri gluhog telefona citirali izvor koji je (svjesno ili nesvjesno) lažno prenio zaključke studije na koju se poziva.Vaš novinar pod inicijalima PSD se poziva ne neku nedavnu studiju u uglednom časopisu New England Journal of Medicine (NEJM), i tvrdi da su autori te studije pokazali da cjepivo dovodi do duljeg trajanja infektivnosti.

To me je iznenadilo, jer ugledni svjetski mediji ni međunarodna znanstvena za...
